2XKO, a.k.a. Project L, is a new competitive 2v2 fighting game. I was an early member of the development team and initially stepped in to support early understand of our audience and identify potential opportunities where Riot's experience with competitive gaming could be used to support a modern fighting game community (the "FGC"). This included conducting ethnographic research overseas, running focused brainstorming exercises with the team, and managing specific explorations for the around-game experience.
As the vision of the product became more fleshed out, my role evolved to support the iteration of game prototypes in engine, and help implement UI to test various game systems being proposed. I was particularly involved in Meta Game Systems and Social Systems design, and focused on different ways the FGC could form different relationship with other players like they do in real life. This resulted in the development of the social lobbies environment that was revealed with the Alpha Lab playtest in summer 2024.
Most of my time on the project was spent as the sole UX designer, but as the team moved out of pre-production, I was responsible for managing a small team of in house and vendor resources.
The game was publicly announced in 2019 but no release date has been set.
